Naked Tree
Mar 2020

A naked treeonce in front of mehas mounted green feathersand blossomed beautifully.
It’s spindly arms waved dailythrough watermarked window panesand the cloudy substance of sleepinessin my eyes as I woke uphoping for you, naked treeto cause a smileto creep up on my facebut you never didinstead, you scaredthe little girl in me.
But today you dowhen I realise you were once barrenbut now you shine emerald leavesagainst the gleaming strips of dawn.
And my lips curl when I realisethat no longer must I clothe youwith my curtainsand imagine your gesticulationsas the howling windsmanhandle your ebony frame.
Today you stand proudelegant and independentof external forcesToday your season has comeand indeed you have growninto a beautiful figure before meToday I smile because I realiseyou are everythingthe little girl in medreamed to be.
